Climate-smart solutions to reduce climate impact

Beijer Ref develops environmentally friendly heating and cooling systems that help customers reduce their climate impact and meet regulatory requirements. By offering training and support, the company drives the climate transition in the HVAC sector.

Beijer Ref's climate responsibility

Beijer Ref strives to reduce its own and its customers' environmental impact by offering green products and training. The company follows international guidelines such as the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG) and reports these to the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP).

Ambitious emission reduction targets

To contribute to the Paris Agreement target of 1.5 degrees, Beijer Ref has set targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 42 per cent in Scope 1 & 2 and 25 per cent in Scope 3 by 2030. These targets have been validated by the Science Based Target initiative (SBTi).

Reduced emissions in 2023

In 2023, Beijer Ref's total carbon footprint decreased by 5 per cent. This is due, among other things, to the transition to natural refrigerants and new, more energy-efficient products replacing older, more energy-intensive alternatives.

Focus on reducing Scope 1 & 2 emissions

Beijer Ref has reduced its Scope 1 & 2 emissions by 4 per cent (excluding a leak incident in 2022) thanks to an increased focus on reducing both direct and indirect emissions. Direct emissions come mainly from the company's vehicle fleet and heating of buildings with fossil fuels, while indirect emissions are mainly linked to electricity consumption for lighting, heating, cooling and use of district heating.

Reducing scope 3 emissions

Scope 3 accounts for more than 99 per cent of Beijer Ref's emissions, mainly from the installation and use of products sold. By training customers and installers and offering chillers and heat pumps with a low GWP value, Beijer Ref reduces these emissions. The company also works to ensure that refrigerants are handled correctly at the end of their life cycle and that the trend is towards even lower GWP solutions.

In summary, Beijer Ref's efforts are contributing to lowering the global carbon footprint and supporting the transition to a more climate-neutral future.
